Learn how to observe the natural breath in order to experience inner peace and change the habit patterns of the mind.
Observation of the natural breath has the power to bring balance and harmony to the mind.
The practice is rooted in the traditions from which contemporary models of mindfulness arise and is central to Yoga and Dhamma systems. The teaching is supported by audio recordings of Dr. Kumar that connect us to the origins, traditions and the fundamental principles of the technique. The purpose of this is to maintain the pure science of meditation in order to benefit from it fully and to acknowledge its ethical and philosophical basis. The practice is taught systematically and is supported by explanations, simple theory and group discussion.
A set of home practice recordings are available to all students who complete the course.
Suitable for beginners and as a refresher for those who have already learned.

The course involves a sequential series of meditation sessions that introduce the technique. Between each session there will be an opportunity to ask questions, have a short break and stretch. We will have a morning and afternoon tea break, serving herbal tea and an hour lunch break. There will be a ‘yoga nidra’ relaxation session after lunch. Theory will be covered through introductory talks and group discussions about the meditation practice will take place throughout the weekend.
The course teaches the progressive steps of the technique that can be continued as a daily practice or used as a basis for working with the mind more deeply on a residential course.

Course led by Neeta Madahar and Steve Braund
Neeta is a professional visual artist and yoga and meditation teacher in Newbury, West Berkshire.She has been attending silent meditation retreats with Traditional Yoga since 2011 and maintains a daily meditation practice. Neeta has been a yoga teacher since 2012, qualifying as an instructor with Yogacampus, London in 2014. She teaches several weekly private and public Hatha Flow yoga classes including at Stable Yoga in Kintbury and Vodafone UK headquarters in Newbury. Neeta has taught ‘Natural Breath Awareness’ meditation since 2013 to individuals and small groups at a mutually convenient time. She also co-teaches on the twice yearly Newbury Awareness Meditation Weekend Course and supports local meditators to maintain their practice with regular events. “Meditation is a powerful life skill that has transformed my relationship with myself, others and everything around me for the better in countless ways.”
Steve Braund is based in Cornwall and has been practising meditation and yoga with Dr. Kumar for eight years, having meditated in Eastern traditions throughout most of his adult life. Steve says that the benefits of practising this meditation cannot be understated. ‘It enables you to realise that source of inner illumination and deep peace that can help us to be less dependent upon the ever changing and impermanent things we seek happiness through in the external world.’ Outside of meditation Steve is an illustrator and educator by profession, running a Master’s course in Authorial Illustration at Falmouth University and is managing director of the independent publishing company Atlantic Press.
We have a limited number of bursaries available to cover the course fee for those who are unable to afford this amount. Dana, translated as ‘giving’ is the virtue of unconditional generosity and unattached giving through donation to a good cause. Seva, translated as selfless service is an equally important principle in the yoga tradition, based on the value of working for others without expectation of personal reward. The teaching of yoga has for thousands of years been offered on this basis, to allow students the opportunity to cultivate dana, and teachers the opportunity to cultivate seva. Traditional Yoga is committed to following these principles. All our weekend course teachers are volunteers which allows us to run the weekends on a donation basis. Donations are used to sustain the charity, offer bursary places for UK students and support our charitable projects in India. For more information about the charity please click here. In addition to the suggested minimum donation we charge a nominal course fee to cover the costs of running the course.
How to Book
We divide payments into a compulsory Course Fee and a voluntary Suggested Minimum Donation, this is a two step process.
The Course Fee covers the basic costs of running the courses. All Traditional Yoga teachers are volunteers. The Donation recognises the value of the teaching and supports our charitable work in the UK and India. For more information about the charity please click here.
