Meditating on the natural breath has the power to bring balance and harmony to the mind.
This technique, referred to by Patanjali as Prana Samyama is central to Yoga systems.
The teaching is supported by audio recordings by Dr Kumar.
A home practice recording is available to all students who complete the course.
Suitable for beginners and as a refresher for those who have already learned
Course offered on a residential or non-residential basis.
Chamonix is just 45 minutes from Geneva.
The course is limited to 16 places. You can attend the course during the day only or we also offer 2 nights accommodation Friday & Saturday evening (2nd & 3rd November 2018).
The accommodation is at Gare des Glaciers which is booked through Traditional Yoga. Please see below for more information.

Meditation on the natural breath is central to Yoga and Buddhist systems. Referred to by Patanjali as Prana Samyama, its purpose is to bring balance and harmony to the mind. In the long term it has the power to transform mental habit patterns leading to profound happiness and peace.
Weekend courses offer the opportunity to learn and practice the technique in a focused and sustained way with the support of experienced teachers to guide you and answer any questions that may come up.
During the course you will gain a deep understanding of the technique in both theory and practice.
The course involves a sequential series of meditation sessions that introduce the technique. Between each session there will be an opportunity to ask questions, have a short break and stretch. We will have a morning and afternoon tea break, serving herbal tea and an hour lunch break. There will be a ‘yoga nidra’ relaxation session after lunch. Theory will be covered through introductory talks and group discussions about the meditation practice will take place throughout the weekend.
The course teaches the progressive steps of the technique that can be continued as a daily practice or used as a basis for working with the mind more deeply on a residential course.
Course led by Norma Potter & Christoph Heintzeler
Norma is based between Geneva and Chamonix and has been practising meditation and yoga with Dr. Kumar since 2013. Norma works for the United Nations and teaches yoga. Her aim now is to share all the profound benefits that she has received from her practice with as many people as possible. Norma teaches weekly meditation classes in Geneva and weekend courses in Chamonix and in the Jura. New and old meditators are welcome.
Christoph has been practising Yoga for 30 years in many traditions and is grateful for the knowledge that has been shared with him by renowned teachers in Europe and India. He has been attending retreats with Dr Kumar since 2014 twice a year and has completed an advanced Yoga teacher training course under the guidance of Dr Kumar in Hyderabad in 2015. He is keen to share the deep insight he gained into the Yoga Tradition. Christoph’s health has benefitted enormously from practising Yoga and meditation and the profound changes this has brought to his life. Christoph works with vulnerable adults for a London Local Authority. He lives and teaches yoga and meditation in Central London to individuals and groups.
What to Bring
- A meditation cushion if you have one. Otherwise, two ordinary cushions or pillows. Alternatively, specially designed Meditation cushions can be ordered in advance though our website, please click here.
- Chairs will be available for those who wish to use them.
- A Yoga mat or rug or blanket to lie down on for the ‘Yoga nidra’ relaxation session.
- A blanket to cover yourself during the Yoga nidra session, as the body temperature tends to cool down.
- A towel

There are 12 single beds available in shared rooms of 2-3 people at Gare des Glaciers.

Pre-booking is essential. You will be asked to make this payment in cash to the teachers on the first morning of the course.
Residential course food price €40/50CHF (£36) this includes 2 x Breakfast (Porridge with dried fruit), 2 x lunch, 2 x snacks of Fruit, dried fruit and Tea, 2 x afternoon cake.
Non-residential food price €30/37CHF (£27) this includes 2 x Lunch, 2 x snacks of Fruit, dried fruit and Tea, 2 x Cake
Self catering option is available.
We organise a group dinner on Saturday night at the local indian restaurant which is optional for all to attend (and an additional cost – guest pay for what they eat). A sign up sheet is passed around on Saturday should you wish to join us.

Once you have decided residential or non-residential and we have confirmed your accommodation, we ask you to confirm your booking by making a bank transfer payment. Please email firstname.lastname@example.org for our bank details.
Please use the reference 1911CHAM and email us email@example.com to tell us you have made the payment. We will then confirm payment has been received and confirm your place on the course. This is a manual, not automated process completed during office hours.
We divide payments into a compulsory Course Fee of Residential/Accommodation €184/220CHF (£160) or day student €92/110CHF (£80).
Plus a voluntary Suggested Minimum Donation €58/59CHF (£50) at the time of making the course booking.
Please note that confirmation is made manually during office hours. Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays 9am-5pm and Wednesdays 1pm-5pm.
The minimum suggested donation will help fund the charitable programmes of Traditional Yoga in India to make high quality teaching of yoga, meditation and dietary advice available to thousands of people for free or at a very low cost, who would otherwise not have access. The donation is an expression of generosity and gratitude. The teachers teaching on the course as ‘seva’, translated as voluntary selfless service. Dana, translated as ‘giving’ is the virtue of unconditional generosity and unattached giving through donation to a good cause. Seva, translated as selfless service is an equally important principle in the yoga tradition, based on the value of working for others without expectation of personal reward. The teaching of yoga has for thousands of years been offered on this basis, to allow students the opportunity to cultivate dana, and teachers the opportunity to cultivate seva. Traditional Yoga is committed to following these principles. All our weekend course teachers are volunteers which allows us to run the weekends on a donation basis.
